Scope

This document specifies a method for the evaluation of the sensitivity of grease to prolonged working in presence of water, with two possible effects: either important softening leading to leakages of grease flow from bearings or important hardening with possible mechanical blockage.

Purpose

Grease compatibility with water is a problem in many industries: paper mills, steel mills, mining, etc. The proposed method permits, among others, to predict the behaviour of greases in presence of water.
