CEN/TC 254 Draft decision 613 - NWI for CEN/TS 17048 (WG 6) ‘Flexible sheets for waterproofing - Plastic and rubber sheets for waterproofing of concrete bridge decks and other trafficked areas of concrete - Definitions and characteristics’

Scope

This European Standard specifies characteristics and performance of plastic and rubber sheets for waterproofing of concrete bridge decks and other concrete surfaces trafficable by vehicles where the waterproofing is fully bonded to the concrete deck and fully bonded to the asphalt overlay.

This standard does not cover concrete surfaces trafficable by vehicles where the waterproofing is not fully bonded to the concrete and/or not fully bonded to an overlay.

The standard also states the test methods used for verifying the characteristics and gives rules for the assessment and verification of consistency of performance of the product.

Purpose

With reference to TC decision 397 on May 2013 ( TC254 N 1361, unanimity decision) WG6 was charged to develop a new standard for synthetic products to be applied at bridge decks and trafficked areas, because such products were already utilised in EU market. The standard was presented to CEN and obtained reference number 17048 (WI 00254169). At Formal vote FprEN 17048 received negative assessment by CEN consultant Mr. J. Cuche on 2018-02-22, so its way to become a harmonized standards was stopped. Current uncertainty regarding future of CPR and hENs is not expected to be solved in near future. However there is strong market need for coverage of synthetics products for bridge deck waterproofing in a CEN document. Therefore it was decided by CEN/TC 254 (43rd plenary meeting, 2021) to pursue publication of the work done via CEN/TS, and pursue harmonization of EN in later stage when CPR situation is solved by EC and CEN.

Purpose of this NWIP is to save and publish all work done for hEN 17048 (WI 00254169) as CEN /TS
