The palladium content of the sample lies preferably between 50 and 999 parts per thousand (‰). Fineness above 999 ‰ can be determined using a spectroscopy method by difference (e.g. ISO 15093).
This method is also intended to be used as one of the recommended methods for the determination of fineness in jewellery alloys covered by ISO 9202.
The planned revision of ISO 11490 opens the scope for the use to not only jewellery alloys, but also to all other precious metal alloys for the use of the standard by refiners.
The technical content was revised and harmonized with other methods for precious metals fineness testing. The harmonization will provide an easier protocol in the testing labs and will therefore faciliate the transfer between different precious metals fineness testings. ISO 11490 is the recommended method for the determination of palladium.
