These can be independent or integrated into cultural establishments. They are dedicated to the preservation, storage, management of, and access to collections. NOTE: For the infrastructures and technical equipment of these open storage facilities, see EN 16893.
The concept defined in EN 16141 is now shared and implemented by professionals. As EN 16893:2018 “Conservation of Cultural
Heritage - Specifications for location, construction and modification of buildings or rooms intended for the storage or use of heritage collections” has now been adopted, it is necessary to amend EN 16141:2012:
- to make the necessary references to EN 16893 in EN 16141;
- to clarify the objectives of both documents, EN 16141 being a methodology document defining what is an area dedicated to the conservation of cultural heritage, its organisation (logistics) and its management;
- to make consistent some specifications (e.g. 6.1 Fire protection);
- to add a general clause on risk analysis in EN 16141;
- to harmonize terminology.
