CEN/TC 191 N 1913, Revision of EN 1568-1 2018 Fire extinguishing media - Foam concentrates - Part 1 - Specification for medium expansion foam concentrates for surface application to water-immiscible liquids

Scope

This document specifies requirements for chemical and physical properties, and minimum performance requirements of medium expansion foams suitable for surface application to water-immiscible liquids. This document also specifies requirements for marking.

WARNING - Any type approval according to this standard is invalidated by any change in composition of the approved product.

NOTE Some concentrates conforming to this document can also conform to other parts and therefore can also be suitable for application as low and/or high expansion foams.

Purpose

A revision of series EN 1568:2018 is needed to bring it up to date and align it with test requirements of similar standards. EN 1568 is no longer useable to non-fluorinated systems, as AFFF foams are being phased out.

The issues are highlighted and documented in CEN/TC 191/WG 3 N 12 and N 18 (See CEN/TC 191 N1917). See also meeting minutes of 8th meeting of CEN/TC 191/WG 3 (N 22; see CEN/TC 191 N1917).
