CEN/TC 346 N 994 N 995, Revision of an EN 15999-1 2014 Conservation of cultural heritage – Guidelines for design of showcases for exhibition and preservation of objects – Part 1: General instructions

Scope

This European Standard specifies the characteristics and the conditions for use of showcases for safe and secure display of cultural heritage objects, reducing environmental interaction and complying with the requirements for better preservation. Part 1 contains general instructions, Part 2 contains technical details.

Purpose

Following the Decision 270/2020 taken during the CEN/TC 346 plenary meeting on the 18th of November 2020, it was decided to revise EN 15999-1 to align it with prEN 15999-2 currently under development within the working group WG 12 “Showcases”.

This standard will offer a common basis for the dialogue and collaboration between end-users (collection managers, conservators, curators, installers, technical agents and more), designers (architects, persons in charge of scenography or museography and more), manufacturers, and contracting authorities who are in charge of the cultural institutions in Europe. It will propose general requirements to build the most efficient, cost effective, and sustainable showcase, in the context of temporary and long-term exhibitions.
