ISO/TC 130 N 4594, ISO/PWI 24585-1 Graphic technology -- Multispectral measurement and colorimetric computation -- Part 1: Parameters and measurement methods

Scope

This document defines minimum requirements, test methods and reporting requirements for the spatially resolved spectral measurement of printed reflecting objects. Guidance as to which of these metrics to apply to any given use case along with acceptable conformance criteria is provided in subsequent parts of ISO 24585.

Purpose

In the past, printers have turned to spectrophotometers to measure the accuracy of printing processes and check the fidelity of colour prints and proofs. ISO 13655 have provided the basis for reliable and accurate measurement. These measurements however were mostly been used offline. Meeting current customer expectations press manufacturers are employing more and more systems that continually monitor the colour fidelity of the printed data so that, should any colour imperfections occur or a recalibration is deemed necessary, the printing process can be dynamically adjusted. Though more and more inline and offline 1D and 2D multispectral measurement systems are in use. Here different spatial and spectral resolutions are in place.

Those multispectral systems allow for parallel colour measurement of all “pixels”, colour measurement of structured surfaces, conducting statistical analysis of colour distribution, doing classical image analyses and storing the multispectral images.

So far no requirements have been available for such systems to evaluate their quality. This should be done by aligning to the important standard ISO 13655 and extending it to the spatial domain.
