CEN/TC 198 N 353, Revision of an EN EN 1034-6 2005+A1 2009 Safety of machinery - Safety requirements for the design and construction of paper making and CEN/TC 198 N 353 finishing machines - Part 6: Calender

Scope

This European Standard applies to calenders intended for use in paper making and finishing and shall be used together with EN 1034-1:2000+A1:2009. It deals with all significant hazards listed in clause 4. Related safety requirements and/or measures are described in clause 5. It does not cover hazards connected with lifting operations required for changing rolls, inserting reels into the unwinding unit, removal of reels from the winding unit and heating systems for heating calender rolls.

This European Standard is not applicable to calenders that have been manufactured before the date of publication of this standard.

Purpose

The result of the systematic review in 2018 showed that five members (AT, DE, LT, SE) are in favour to revise the standard. The necessity of adapting the contents to the state of the art is seen.

Due to delays in other projects of the responsible working group CEN/TC 198 WG2, it was not yet possible to start the project within the scheduled time frame (3 years) for the existing Preliminary Work Item. From the side of the experts, there is still the wish to start the projects in the near future. In consultation with the CCMC, it was decided to set up the PWI for this standard for a further three years.
