It has the status of a horizontal standard in accordance with IEC Guide 108, Guidelines for ensuring the coherency of IEC publications – Application of horizontal standards.
This terminology is consistent with the terminology developed in the other specialized parts of the International Electrotechnical Vocabulary (IEV).
This horizontal standard is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 108.
One of the responsibilities of a technical committee is, wherever applicable, to make use of horizontal standards in the preparation of its publications.
The deliverable will include the horizontal terms and definitions for electrical equipment, electrical systems and software used in healthcare. This chapter is important for the coherent and consistent development of vocabulary related to the healthcare sector, also supporting future standards for this sector. This chapter assists in the development of IEC TC 62 standards and other documents. It intends to clarify differences with similar terms used in healthcare and other areas.
Terms from existing documents used in the healthcare sector are collected. Where necessary, the terms and definitions are reviewed, updated, generalized and harmonized. This will be a collective effort with the originators of the terms and definitions affected.
