ISO/PWI 13649 - Earth-moving machinery - Fire prevention

Scope

The document provides guidelines for consideration in reducing the risk of fires generated on earthmoving machinery as defined in ISO 6165. This document provides fire prevention principles for the design, operation and maintenance of earth-moving machines during their intended use.

Purpose

Current standards do not fully address the risk of fires on earth-moving machinery. ISO 20474-1, Earthmoving machinery — Safety — Part 1: General requirements, has a few clauses that address fire prevention. ISO 19353, Safety of machinery — Fire prevention and fire protection, prepared by ISO/TC 199, Safety of machinery, is a type-B standard and specifically states it is not applicable to mobile machinery. This standard will be a type-C standard, using ISO 19353 as a guide, that will inform the reader of potential fire hazards for earth-moving machinery, provide information on conducting a risk assessment, provide design guidelines of current industry best practices, and provide information to be included in operator’s manuals related to fire prevention and fire safety.
