ISO/TC 173 N 946, ISO/PWI 11334-4 Walking aids manipulated by one arm -- Requirements and test methods -- Part 4: Walking sticks with three or more legs

Scope

This part of ISO 11334 specifies the requirements and test methods of walking sticks with three or more legs being used as assistive products for walking manipulated by one arm without accessories, unless specified in the particular test procedure.

The standard is not applicable to walking sticks with three or more legs with underarm or forearm support or with moving parts such as a universal joint.

Purpose

The followings are the reasons for proposing ISO 11334-4 revision;

1.The stability requirements in the existing 11334-4: 1999 are not appropriate to variety of users who have the different need/purpose of the products in their every-day use.

2. The static strength test for each leg and separation part to be added, because there is a moment when the users of the walking ticks get supported only by one or two legs during the normal walking pattern.

3. Added the relative general requirements and test methods described in ISO/FDIS 21856.
