ISO/NP 9813 - Corrosion of metals and alloys-Performance test method for corrosion inhibitors of industry equipment chemical cleaning

Scope

This standard specifies the performance evaluation test method for corrosion inhibitors of industry equipment chemical cleaning. The standard includes instruments, reagents, preparation and pretreatment of the specimen, test conditions, test methods, reports, etc. This standard is applicable to test the performance for corrosion inhibitors of industry equipment chemical cleaning

Purpose

Chemical cleaning is one of the most widely used methods in surface treatment field of the metals and alloys. Chemical cleaning is primarily utilized in the following fields: 1) Chemical industry: before the equipment putting into operation, chemical cleaning is used to remove the mill scale formed in the manufacture process and after the equipment putting into operation for a period, chemical cleaning is used to remove the scale formed in the operation process. 2) Metal process industry: chemical cleaning is adopted to eliminate the oil dirt and oxide formed on the metal surface before and during the metal process. 3) Power industry: electricity and civil boilers employ chemical cleaning method to remove the scale and oxide-skin of thermal equipment.4) Vehicle industry: auto parts and vehicle before painting need chemical cleaning. 5) Ship industry: chemical cleaning is used to keep the surfaces of ship body and engine cleaning. 6) Aircraft industry: chemical cleaning is an important method to cleaning the surfaces of airplane parts and agine.7) Other fields: chemical cleaning is also widely used in medical and health, food industry, aerospace industry and military industry etc.. For the industry equipment, the metal surface of the equipment may occur corrosion and scaling during the operation of the equipment. Chemical cleaning is the most widely used method to remove the corrosion and scaling products on the industry equipment surface. During every chemical cleaning process, corrosion inhibtor is added to the cleaning system to inhibt the metal from corrosion. Corrosion inhibitor is the substance that, when present in the corrosion system at a suitable concentration, decreases the corrosion rate without significantly change the concentration of any corrosion agent. During the chemical cleaning process, adding corrosion inhibitor into the chemical cleaning system can effectively control the corrosion of chemicals on metal matrix. According to the chemical composition, the chemical cleaning corrosion inhibitor can be divided into inorganic corrosion inhibitor and organic corrosion inhibitor. According to the chemical cleaning medium, the corrosion inhibitor can be divided into hydrochloric acid corrosion inhibitor, nitric acid corrosion inhibitor, sulfuric acid corrosion inhibitor, compound organic acid corrosion inhibitor, and citric acid corrosion inhibitor, etc. The performance of the chemical cleaning corrosion inhibitor is closely related to the type, the concentration, the cleaning medium, the temperature and the flow rate, etc. Due to the high corrosiveness of chemical cleaning agent, the performance of corrosion inhibitor decides the result of the chemical cleaning. If the corrosion inhibitor is selected incorrectly or the performance is not good, the metal equipment surface will not be well protected in the corrosive chemical cleaning environment. Hence, irreversible damage of the metal may occur during the chemical cleaning process. To ensure the safety of the chemical cleaning, the corrosion inhibitor used in the cleaning process shall be evaluated before use. There is an evaluation standard of chemical cleaning in the electricity industry of China. But, there is no international standard of the detection of industry equipment chemical cleaning corrosion inhibitor in ISO or IEC. Therefore, it is of great practical significance to establish a scientific and perfect international standard for industry equipment chemical cleaning corrosion inhibitor. The publication of the standard will provide metal protection efficiency, solubility and dispersivity and time-effectiveness test method for corrosion inhibitors which are used in industry equipment chemical cleaning and provide standard assistant for corrosion inhibitors research, production, application and global trade in chemical cleaning field.
