Magnesium alloy welding rods and wires have showed a wide verified market in transportation equipment, and 3C electronic industry. There are urgent trade need of these products worldwide. However, ISO standards haven’t yet established a standard for magnesium alloy welding rods and wires. There are only some national standards exists, such as YS/T 696, ASTM B 107. Each national standard includes only part of the widely used products of traditional alloys. Recently, some new wrought magnesium alloys applicable to welding rods and wires have been developed globally. This causes some inconvenience misunderstandings for the international trade and inspection of these new alloys products.
Therefore, it is urgent to establish a coherent international standards on wrought magnesium and magnesium alloy welding rods and wires to include both the existed alloys in the current national standards and the newly developed alloys. The standard will provide a guide for all stake holders including researcher, producer, trader and user, benefit trading and applications of wrought magnesium alloy, and thus satisfy the market need for wrought magnesium alloys welding rods and wires.
