Standards Development
This international standard specifies the chemical composition, mechanical properties, shape and dimensional tolerance, technical conditions for inspection and delivery of magnesium and magnesium alloy extruded profiles for general engineering applications.
Wrought magnesium and magnesium alloy profiles have showed a wide verified market in transportation equipment, and in construction industry. There are urgent trade need of these products worldwide.
However, ISO standards haven’t yet established a standard for extruded magnesium and magnesium alloy profiles. There are only some national standards exists, such as GB/T 5156, ASTM B 107, JIS H 4204, and KS D 6723. Each national standard includes only part of the widely used products of traditional alloys. Recently, some new wrought magnesium alloys applicable to profiles have been developed globally. This causes some inconvenience misunderstandings for the international trade and inspection of these new alloy products.
Therefore, it is urgent to establish a coherent international standards on wrought magnesium and magnesium alloy profiles to include both the existed alloys in the current national standards and the newly developed alloys. The standard will provide a guide for all stake holders including researcher, producer, trader and user, benefit trading and applications of wrought magnesium alloy, and thus satisfy the market need for wrought magnesium alloys profiles.
