Scope
This document specifies the classification, design requirements and test methods of Wire rope lifting platform for inspection for close-up inspection of under deck structures for ships. This document applies to the design, manufacture and acceptance of Wire rope lifting platform for inspection. It is also applicable to other types of marine Wire rope lifting platform for inspection.
Purpose
According to IMO MSC.158(78) and IACS UI, oil tankers and bulk carriers, including ore carriers, shall be provided with PMA(Permanently fixed access) inspection channels to conduct a comprehensive close-up inspection to the hull structure.
Carry out close-up inspections to hull structures with Wire rope lifting platform for inspection, instead of using large number of PMA, which will reduce construction costs. Lower empty ship weight is very important for ships design and construction. For shipowners, a light weight of empty ship will significantly reduce the operating costs.
So replacing PMA with Wire rope lifting platform for inspection will bring great financial benefit both to shipyards and shipowners.
Accordingly, it’s necessary to develop a standard document to guide the design and manufacture of steel wire rope platforms to ensure the safety.
