It also specifies minimum requirements for materials, design, manufacture and installation.
This International Standard is applicable to milking machines for milking cows, water buffaloes, sheep and goats where animals are milked with pulsation created by vacuum, and where milk is, at least partly, transported with the help of airflow. Some clauses are not applicable to all types of milking machines. The qualitative requirements also apply to installations for milking other mammals used for milk
ISO 5707 needs to be updated to state of art. The standard was developed for milking machines that maintain a constant "system" vacuum. It needs to cover other types of vacuum as well, e.g. Flow Controlled Vacuum (FCV).
ISO 5707 doesn´t specify milking time testing and/or observations. This should be referred to in the standard, (with this in mind the test standard ISO 6690 mechanical test needs to be revised at some point).
ISO 5070 doesn´t consider the milking of small ruminants like sheep and goats in a sufficient way.
ISO 5707 should be updated to include common robotic milking methods. ISO 5707 doesn´t handle any safety requirements. This should be discussed.
The standard needs to be revised along with ISO 3918 vocabulary and ISO 20966 automatic milking installations. Combining ISO 5707 with ISO 20966 should be considered, they are closely related and reference to each other.
The working group should consider establishing a liaison with IEC TC61 Household and similar electrical appliances to discuss if the electrical requirement in IEC 60335-2-70 Safety — Part 2-70: Particular requirements for milking machines (normative refence) needs to be updated or maybe incorporated in the standard.
The Hygiene safety requirement in ISO 5707 needs to be updated.
