Scope
This document clarifies the parameter values for the initial graphics state of different types of content streams that are defined in ISO 32000-2, Document management — Portable document format — Part 2: PDF 2.0. This ensures a consistent rendered appearance under all conditions.
Purpose
ISO 32000-2, Document management — Portable document format — Part 2: PDF 2.0 is the core PDF file format standard and from which other ISO PDF subset standards rely. This includes PDF/A-4, PDF/X-6 and PDF/VT-3. All these PDF file format standards require precise, error free and unambiguous definitions for all aspects of visual appearance of PDF documents under all possible conditions permitted in the ISO standards. This new document has identified several ambiguities and unstated conditions in the core PDF standard related to initial graphics state parameter values which must be clarified to provide a reliable, trustworthy and vendor-neutral definition of the rendered appearance of all PDF content across all implementations.
