CEN/TC 164 N 3946, CIB Activation PWI/WG16 In-situ generating and dosing devices of biocides for drinking and swimming pool water treatment - Ozone

Scope

The European standards on “In-situ generation and dosing devices of biocides for water treatment” will specify product characteristics and operational schemes. Assessment methods and test specifications for the devices will be described. Furthermore risk notes and mitigation measures will be covered by the standards.

Scope of application of the devices will not be limited to the treatment of drinking water and/or swimming pool water. Scope of application will be treatment of water, covering different kind of water qualities and treatment for different uses of water (drinking, swimming, cooling, etc.).

Purpose

It is planned to develop a series of ENs concerning the in-situ generation and dosing of biocides for water treatment intended for human consumption and for treatment of swimming pool water. As a first step a standard for the in-situ generation of Ozone should be developed. The name of the New Work Item should be: „In-situ generating and dosing devices of biocides for water treatment - Ozone” Similar work items for other in-situ systems will be proposed.

The standardization proposal concerns the in-situ generation and dosing of biocides for water treatment for various different active substances and to develop a series of corresponding standards. These standards do not exist yet.

The standardization projects are also meant to support upcoming product authorization processes of biocidal products in connection with device-based in-situ generation of biocidal active substances according to Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012 concerning the making available on the market and use of biocidal products.

The standardisation of in-situ devices the urgently needed, because on the one hand devices are not subject of the BPR, on the other hand a specification of the devices is required for the product authorisation. EN standards would make available harmonized specifications for the product authorisation, especially for the Union authorisation.
