Standards Development
The revision of the standard is to update the sampling, preparation, physical testing and chemical analysis of mortars for bricklaying, plastering and rendering, in line with current industry best practice and environmental considerations.
The introduction of new more environmentally friendly binders meant that the content of the standard came under closer scrutiny. It was agreed by the committee that earlier revisions of the standard had combined both testing procedures and guidance on the interpretation of results into the standard, which meant that the incorporation of new binders would be very complex. The committee also determined that it would be appropriate to remove the guidance and rewrite the standard to only provide the testing procedures. The interpretive guidance would need to be provided and updated for the new binder types in a separate document. The standard should refer the user to the guidance for interpretation of results.
