CEN/TC 205 N 602, Draft Dec 6/2021 Antimicrobial wound dressings - Requirements and test methods

Scope

This document specifies minimum requirements and a test method for the antimicrobial (microbicidal and microbistatic) activity of wound dressing products. It applies to all wound dressing products that specifically claim antimicrobial activity according to this document.

Purpose

During the Enquiry of prEN 16756:2014 "Antimicrobial wound dressings - Requirements and test methods" the experts recognized that there are discrepancies with the specified test procedures. When undertaking round-robin-tests several participating laboratories came to different and not repeatable test results. CEN/TC 205/WG 15 therefore decided to undertake further investigations to update and refine the procedures.

Due to the delay, the project with the number prEN 16756 was finally withdrawn in 2015. However, to indicate the ongoing work on the subject a new PWI 00205320 was created. The investagations taken in the last years reached a stage where WG 15 feels comfortable to activate the still running PWI.
