Scope

This technical specification provides guidance on the application of connectors specified in ISO 80369 2 and ISO 17256 on respiratory devices.

Purpose

A specially convened ISO TC121 Advisory Group of experts agreed on a recommendation for the implementation of the new respiratory small-bore connectors specified in ISO 80369-2 with regard to the respiratory devices likely to be affected. The recommendations were balloted to the member bodies of TC 121 and accepted. This Technical Specification is needed to explain the recommendations to each of the subcommittees within ISO TC121 so that the changes to their device standards can be implemented as soon as practicable. Changing to these new connectors will prevent misconnections and therefore help save lives.
