Scope

This document defines test methods for surgical standard instruments. This document does ot apply to instruments for use on the central nervous system and on the central cardiovascular system.

Purpose

Due to the increasingly intensive international cooperation in the development, manufacture and marketing of surgical instruments and/or components for these, it is absolutely essential for the necessary communication that a common understanding exists with regard to certain test methods This standard defines and describes the most important test methods in a way that is understandable for everyone.
