Scope

This document specifies terms and definitions for surgical instruments and their components.

Purpose

Due to the increasingly intensive international cooperation in the development, manufacture and marketing of surgical instruments and/or components for these, it is absolutely essential for the necessary communication that a common understanding exists with regard to certain terms/vocabulary and definitions, as well as the specialist terminology. This standard defines and describes the most important terms and definitions as well as the most important designations in a way that is understandable for everyone.
