Scope

This International Standard describes the characteristics of aircraft electric power system. It is applicable to civil aircraft electric power system designing and experimental testing.

Purpose

The revision of ISO 1540-2006 is necessary because the aircraft electrical power system evolved from the traditional CF and VSCF to HVDC power system, So the characteristic of power system must be revised to accommodate the variation of system. The HVDC system has been used in some civil aircraft such as B787 and Airbus-380. The revision of ISO1540 can solve the electric power quality issue in modern civil aircraft. ISO1540 can provide the designing standards for the civil aircraft system integrated manufacture and equipment company.

This international standard aims to unify aircraft electric power system characteristics definition and testing procedure in worldwide, in order to eliminate the controversies in qualification test or quality conformance test for aircraft electrical power system characteristics, since different definition of characteristic of aircraft electrical power system are used by manufacturers, users and the third party inspection institutions.
