ISO/NP 7447-2 Thiourea for industrial use -- Part 2: Specifications

Scope

This document specifies requirements for three classes, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of thiourea for industrial purpose.

Class I is a high quality grade normally used in the areas of optical, electronic and new energy materials. Class II and class III belong to ordinary quality grades and are suitable for the basic chemical industry, such as printing, dyeing, pharmaceutical field, pesticides, and mineral processing, etc.

Purpose

Thiourea, as a kind of chemical raw material, is widely used in the manufacture of drugs, dyes, resins, compression plastic powder, etc., and can also be used as vulcanization accelerator for rubber and flotation agent for metal minerals, especially in the field of high-folding optical resin materials. The raw materials of industrial thiourea are mainly hydrogen sulfide and calcium cyanamide (commonly known as lime nitrogen). Hydrogen sulfide can be prepared from refinery acid gas, while the waste residue of thiourea can be used to prepare lime nitrogen. Therefore, thiourea belongs to industrial waste gas reuse and waste residue recycling products, which is beneficial to environmental protection.

According to incomplete statistics, global consumption of thiourea exceeded 50,000 tons in 2018, involving more than 70 countries and regions. In 2019, China exported thiourea to more than 40 countries, including more than 5,260 tons to Japan, 2,405 tons to Vietnam, 2,165 tons to Russia, 2,137 tons to India, nearly 1,900 tons to Thailand, and 1,300 tons to the United States. With the development of medicine, chemical fertilizer, printing and dyeing, new energy materials, metal refining and other industries, the demand for thiourea and its derivatives will continue to increase.

China, Japan, Russia and the United States have developed the normative documents about thiourea. However, there is no global product test methods standard about thiourea for industrial use. Therefore, by developing the international standard, on the one hand, it can normalize the test method of thiourea for industrial use, improve communication efficiency and facilitate international trade of thiourea for industrial use; On the other hand, it can promote technical cooperation and exchange among organizations engaged in R&D, production, trade and other activities of thiourea for industrial use.

In order to guarantee the safety, efficiency, practicality, advanced and eco-friendly of the standard, all enterprises and research institutes who are interested in this item around the world will be invited to participate in this work.
