The methods of measuring are described and rules for measurement of strain in structural members are given from which stresses can be computed in geotechnical engineering or more general in foundation engineering. Strains and stresses in geotechnical structural members are needed to judge the loading of engineered construction in the ground.
The techniques to install the monitoring equipment and the design of the equipment have to be prescribed. This standard is a complement to the series ISO 18674.
This is a sister standard to ISO 18674-8 Load cells, it covers the measurement of similar forces with different techniques
