18A/442/NP; PNW 18A-442 ED1 Electrical installations in ships - Part 3xx: Optical fiber cables

Scope

This part of IEC 60092 is applicable to shipboard and offshore optical fiber cables intended for fixed installations. The various types of optical fiber cables are given in the relevant clause. The constructional requirements and test methods are specified in this document. The object of this document is – to standardize cables whose safety and reliability is ensured when they are installed in accordance with the requirements of IEC 60092-352 or IEC 61892-4. – to lay down standard manufacturing requirements and characteristics of such cables directly or indirectly bearing on safety, and

Purpose

The use of optical fiber cable on board of ships and offshore units is coming more and more and in the series of IEC 60092-3XX no product standard is available. This standard will solve the aforementioned issue on an international level, helping to standardize optical fiber cable on board of ships and offshore units To start the work on such a new standard was agreed on the last plenary meeting, (see unconfirmed minutes 18A/439/RM). A joint working group together with members of IEC SC 86A should be installed to work out a first CD.
