ISO/NP 10828 Worm gears -- Worm profiles and gear mesh geometry

Scope

In this standard, thread profiles of the five most common types of worms at the date of publication are described and formulae of their axial profiles are given.

The five worm types covered in this technical report are designated by the letters A, C, I, K and N. The formulae to calculate the path of contact, the conjugate profile of the worm wheel, the lines of contact, the radius of curvature and the velocities at points of contact are provided. At the end the application of those formulae to calculate parameters used in load capacity calculations are provided.

Purpose

This proposal is established in order to promote ISO/TR 10828 to an International Standard. ISO/TC 60 and its Subcommittee develop standards on geometry (e.g. ISO 21107). However, due to the complexity of this type of gears, it was agreed that the first document would be a TR. This TR was revised and improved. Today there is no technical reason for the document not to become a standard. This status will consolidate SC 1 agreement of on this document and strengthen its credibility with users.

Consider the following:

Is there a verified market need for the proposal?

What problem does this document solve? What value will the document bring to end-users?

See Annex C of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1 for more information.
