For the purpose of this document the term “wire” also includes bars.
Based on ISO 6935-3:1992 (steel for the reinforcement of concrete -Part 3: Welded fabric) and market demand, this project will update product specifications, technical requirements, and test methods. The details are as followings.
1. Normative references: Updating the reference with the up-to-date ISO standards.
2. Terms and definitions: Revising some definitions and adding the geometric characteristics of fabric
3. General requirements: Updating the specification range of plain and ribbed bars which used to make the fabric and modifying the permitted geometric deviations for fabric.
4. Testing and inspection: Updating the test methods standard.
There are great demands for the welded steel fabric for the reinforcement of concrete. For the requirements of welded steel fabric, the major enterprises in the industry generally refer to national standards or regional standards, which have many differences. It makes international trade business more difficult and may cause the conflict and increase the cost. The revised ISO 6935-3:1992 (Steel for the reinforcement of concrete -Part 3: Welded fabric) should serve as corresponding reference and guidance. However, ISO 6935-3:1992 (Steel for the reinforcement of concrete -Part 3: Welded fabric) has existed for 28 years and cannot meet the current needs.
a) ISO 6935-3 should include up-to-date products, e.g., 18 mm plain and ribbed bars which used to make the fabric which have biggest volume in the world.
b) Quality requirement should be updated in ISO 6935-3. permitted geometric deviations of diagonal difference (the difference between the two outermost diagonal solder joints) for fabric are proposed to be added since they may affect process with uniformity.
c) Furthermore, normative references and testing and inspection part in ISO 6935-3:1992 should be updated and improved.
A revised and improved ISO standard will solve the above problems and contribute to better international trade business, bringing more benefits to both purchasers and suppliers.
