3/1471/NP - PNW TS 3-1471 ED1 Representation of communication in power utility automation

Scope

This document specifies a structure for representation of exchanged information that is required for testing and maintenance of the devices in power utility automation applications (communication configuration description (CCD)). It is mainly intended for equipment and intelligent electronic devices (IED) that communicate information in accordance with IEC 61850 (all parts) in at least one part of their communication flow.

Purpose

Substation automation systems (SAS) have been increasingly modernized thanks to their benefits to power utilities. IEC 61850 (all parts) for digital data exchange has provided the comprehensive range of International Standards covering functional, communication and engineering aspects, but does not cover the presentation and visualization of these functions, to serve as human readable representation of data for reliable and convenient use by personnel in the field.

This document aims to provide a structure for representation of exchanged information that is used for testing and maintenance of devices in the substation. This reference documentation is supposed to be part of the delivery documentation for an IEC 61850 substation.
