In the evaluation of the products for the fertilizer industry, it is important to ensure that their use in food production can meet the applicable food safety standards. Most common sources of illness related to food safety is due to the presence of pathogenic microorganisms introduced via fertilizer applied prior to harvest or from irrigation. The widespread inclusion and use of Bio stimulants (including microbial products) today, has increased the potential and probability of contamination. Some of the newer fertilizers have incorporated nutrient sources derived from animal byproducts (e.g. feather meal, blood meal, dried offal, chicken feather meal), fish meal, treated sewerage, and biosolids. Therefore development of International Standard for Staphylococcus aureus coagulase-positive is necessary.
