Scope

This part of ISO 23117 is applicable for unmanned aerial spraying systems that are attached to the unmanned agricultural aircraft systems (UAAS) with the intention of applying liquid form of plant protection products (PPP) downward evenly on the targeted horizontal area.

This part of ISO 23117 specifies field measurements of spray deposition to determine the quantity and distribution of spray in a plane surface area in the transverse direction, treated by UASS with downward directed application.

This part of ISO 23117 may not be appropriate for evaluating spray deposition within crop canopy and spray deposition in forest, individual trees, trees and bush crops. Also, it is not appropriate for those spraying systems which rely on the presence of a crop canopy for efficient deposition (for example directed spraying, electrostatic charged spraying, very fine spraying).

Purpose

Provide the benchmark requirements and measurement method in a horizontal plane for unmanned aerial spraying system used for the application of plant protection products and fertilizers.

Currently ISO 16119-5 Aerial spraying systems specifically exclude unmanned systems. The growing popularity and potential for unmanned to be employed for the application of crop protection and crop husbandry products highlights the requirement for an associated standard.

When the measurement method of these systems have been formulated as a standard work will extend to establish standards for the testing of performance parameters.
