ISO/TC 22 N 4074, ISO/PWI 24581 - Road vehicles - General requirements and test methods of in-vehicle optical harnesses for up to 100Gbit/s communication

Scope

This document is intended to specify the performance requirements and test methods for optical harnesses for up to 100Gbit/s per fibre channel for in-vehicle data communication between electronic devices including in-line connections. The optical harness consists of cables and connectors including cable to cable (in-line) connectors and electronic device (header) connectors. Safety (electrical safety, protection, fire, etc.) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements are outside the scope of this document.

(Note-1) Specific to the optical header connector, only MRP, ORP and relevant mechanical dimensions are covered within this scope.

(Note-2) The optical coupling system inside an optical header connector and the optoelectronic component itself are out of the scope of this document.

Purpose

The subject of this proposal is to specify in-vehicle optical harness for up to 100 Gbit/s high-speed communication, which will help to install ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and intelligence infotainment systems for automated cars. High-speed automotive information network has been expected as the best network solution for ADAS and automated cars.

The potential market will be growing up rapidly.

Currently, Multi-Gigabit Ethernet is getting popular in automotive market, and it is predicted that 10Gbps launches into the market in 2020-2023. Moreover, standardizations (both electrical and optical) for higher speed (up to 100Gbit/s) transmission are now discussed in the IEEE standard committee. The purpose of this proposal is that we specify both the optical components and measurement methods for automotive applications in order to realize high-speed (up to 100 Gbit/s) in-vehicle communication. In addition, there are considered to be low-cost and most reliable components.
