It is applicable to steel delivered in the form of bars, coils and de-coiled products. It does not apply to ribbed bars produced from finished products.
The characteristics of high humidity, high salt fog and high ultraviolet radiation in marine environment often lead to corrosion of steel bars in concrete, which affects the durability of structures and shortens the service life of buildings. According to incomplete statistics, the loss caused by corrosion accounts for about 2% - 4% of the national economy in the world. Therefore, the use of stainless steel reinforcement in new buildings and structures can improve the durability and reduce the maintenance and maintenance costs, which has a very positive significance. With the rapid development of marine economy, the demand of stainless steel reinforcement is increasing. Technical requirements are also getting stricter. And there is much more need and trade in the international market. In the 1930s, stainless steel bars have been used in engineering and construction, such as the guild hall project in Britain, Parkway highway bridge in the United States, stonecutters bridge and Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge in China.
There are common steel standards for reinforced concrete such as ISO 6935-1, ISO 6935-2. But there is not a complete and systematic stainless steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete standard. Now there are BS 6744-2016, JIS G4322-2008, ASTM A955-20 standards for this same use, but it is not specialized standard. Chinese GB/T 33959-2017 standards include such products, but these are regional or national standards, not international standards. The companies will use some national standards when they exported this stainless steel bars to other countries. But the both parties will sign a technical agreement for more technical content. So it needs an ISO standard to help improve the product quality, promote the trade and meet the need of the market. Meanwhile, to formulate a stainless steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete standard, can make the steel bar standard in the international standard system be more perfect.
Stainless steel bar production enterprises mainly include carpenter Technology Corporation of the United States, Outokumpu company of Finland, Acerinox of Spain, TISCO, Fusteel and WuHang of China. China is a big country in the production and application of stainless steel reinforcement, and has a relatively perfect standard for stainless steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete (GB/T 33959- 2017). These technical precipitation and standard preparation and revision experience provide rich technical data and reliable guarantee for the formulation of the international standard of stainless steel bars. This project will propose much stricter requirement according the marine engineering structure need. This project uses GB/T 33959-2017 as basis, combined with the existing foreign standards, and specifies the s stainless steel bar’s size, property, test method and supply requirement. It will improve and stable the product quality, promote the trade and meet the need of the market To formulate the standard, will well reflect the current condition and development trend of producing and consuming stainless steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete, meet the need of construction, transportation, railways, ports etc industries, and improve the applicability of the standard. To formulate the standard, will standardize the production process of stainless steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete, promote different countries to use uniform standard in international trade, improve the quality of stainless steel bars, effectively promote the development of the technology of international steel industry.
To formulate the standard, will be a good and useful complement to the international standard system, make the steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete international standard more perfect and reasonable, so as to build more perfect steel bars for the reinforcement of concrete international standard system. Considering no other member states and international organization are working on the standard, so the proposal is urgently needed.
