CEN/TC 230 N 1253 Water quality — Guidance for the routine sampling and preparation of benthic diatoms from rivers and lakes

Scope

This European Standard specifies a method for the sampling and laboratory preparation of benthic diatoms for ecological status and water quality assessments. Data produced by this method are suitable for production of water quality indices based on the relative abundanc e of taxa. (unchanged)

Purpose

Incorporation of elements of TR17244 into the standard to produce a single standard that covers all aspects of sampling diatoms from freshwaters, regardless of the manner in which the samples are processed.

TR17244 made extensive reference to EN13946, so incorporation of information specific to sampling for metabarcoding into EN13946 will ensure that all information is available in a single document. Research following the publication of TR17244 means that we are now in a position to make firm recommendations on preservation of samples for metabarcoding.
