103/205/NP, PNW 103-205 ED1 Transmitting Equipment for Radiocommunication – Radio-over-Fibre Technologies and Their Performance Standard - Part 4: Radio-over- fibre based indoor DAS (distributed antenna system) for 5G

Scope

This standard provides the performance standards of the RoF-based 5G Indoor DAS network for costeffectively offering QoS guaranteed 5G mobile communication services with high bandwidth and low-latency characteristics without radio shadowing in an indoor environment. First of all, system overview, system configurations, and the elements of the system are presented and then the electrical and optical interfaces for each system element are defined. Finally, the detail system performance specifications of each element are described for down/up-link configurations.

Purpose

RoF-based 5G DAS is a necessary technology to provide QoS guaranteed 5G services and to remove the radio-shadowing area of millimeter wave with strong propagation straightness in an indoor environment. The system configurations, various interface definition, and detailed performance specifications provided in this standard can be used as a guideline for network operators or communication equipment installation providers to design and deploy DAS networks in indoor environments. Explosive growth in the global 5G market is expected after 2021, and it is predicted that the use of this standard is essential for a lot of users to experience various 5G application services in an indoor environment.

At TC103 WG6 meeting held in 2020 online, there was a lot of discussion regarding the current and future applications related with 5G network and RoF based DAS for 5G. In the discussed scenarios of 5G network evolution, the RoF based DAS will play an important role for practical deployment of 5G mobile telecommunication system in the near future.
