This project specifies definitions and terms for using in all standards on analytical chemistry and determination methods for steel and steel products. The purpose of this terminology is to promote clear understanding and interpretation of the standards in which definitions are used. The definitions should be used uniformly and consistently. The international vocabulary of analytical chemistry will be produced to provide a common language for this SC. This standard would be consist definitions of concepts with their associated terms and symbols that essential if analysts and customers across the globe are to understand each other. Analytical chemistry is a scientific discipline that develops and applies methods, instruments, and strategies to obtain information on the composition and nature of matter as well as on the value of these measurements, i.e., their uncertainty, validation, and/or traceability to fundamental standards so it is important to have same definitions in all standards. In this standard terms and definitions used in International Standards for specific methods of chemical testing of steel products, which are the responsibility of ISO Technical Committee 17/SC1 would be defined. A definition contains a single sentence with additional information included in a discussion.
To ensure that communication in a particular domain is effective and that difficulties in understanding are minimized, it is essential that the various participants use the same concepts and concept representations. The standardization of terms and definitions is thus fundamental to all standardization activities. This standard is a compilation of terms commonly used in analytical chemistry for determination of steels and related steel products with different methods. Analytical chemistry is a scientific discipline that develops and applies usage of data and methodology, and promotion of analytical chemistry to society in general definition of terms, and recommendations for the operation of analytical methods.
Definitions of common terms used in analytical chemistry should be the same and it is recommended that have international standard approval through the International Organisation for Standardization. We use some words in several different ways which adds confusion when conversations are between different nationalities. Usage of the terms in standards is more specific from what is generally used in daily life. Experts from different countries often attach different words to the same concept; this makes interdisciplinary standards very difficult and confusing. There needs to have common terms and definitions that are clear and unambiguous so we need a guide for analytical chemistry related to SC1. This document will provide terms and definitions for analytical chemistry concepts dealing with analysis and measurements in support of safe operation and Standardization of methods for the determination of chemical composition of iron and steel. Terminological data are taken from ISO standards developed and other technically validated documents issued by international organizations. Unambiguous communication related to analytical chemistry concepts is crucial taking into account the relevant implications that may arise from misunderstandings with regard to equipment and materials involved in the standards dealing with any subject regarding different methods that used and operated for a wide range of applications and requirements and for different kinds of steel products. In view of the foregoing, a large number of people are involved having different levels of scientific and technical knowledge, thus, it can be widely divergent understandings and assumptions about concepts. The result of poor communication that might lead into an increase of the risk of accidents and duplication of efforts as different groups are going to define concepts according to their perspectives.
