Scope
This European standard applies to bright steel products in the drawn, turned or ground condition delivered in straight lengths. It does not cover cold rolled products and cut lengths produced from strip or sheet by cutting.
This standard, first issued in 1999 and never modified, was referred specifically to the first issue of EN 10277 (in five parts), as the sequential numbering clearly shows. It was applicable also to other steel types, and in particular to bright products in stainless according to EN 10088-3.
When EN 10277 was revised in 2018, following the scheme of ISO 683-18:2014, the tolerances of bright products for the steels of this standard were completely included in EN 10277.
As a consequence, EN 10278 should not include all the products already included in EN 10277:2018..
