This NWIP is related to determine the surface roughness of paper and board using a stylus contact method.
It is a revised ISO NP 24118-1 for a 3rd ballot.
On August 5, 2020, ISO/TC6/SC2/WG25 zoom meeting was held to discuss NWIP 24118-1 by the experts. The comments from the experts have been incorporated as appropriate (N195). The responses to the comments are attached.
In determining surface roughness, three methods are currently available:
1). Non-contact methods such as optical,
2). Indirect methods such as the air-leak methods. ISO 8791-2 for the Bendtsen, ISO 8791-4 for the Print-surf and ISO 8791-5 for the Oken, and
3). Contact methods using stylus (T575 om-13: Emveco-type). At present, however, no ISO standard contact methods for surface roughness of paper and board are available.
This project proposal is to establish an ISO standard method to determine surface roughness of paper and board using a stylus-type contact surface tester.
