This test method evaluates the leakage of gas from the hole of the hose and the interface between hose and fitting. It is distinguished from permeation where gas diffuses through the hose.
The purpose of this proposal is to develop a standard for the test methods for determining the gasleakage of the rubber and plastics hoses and hose assemblies.
There exists ISO 4080 which is the test methods for the determination of gas permeability. However, gas leakage caused by the defect of the hose and/or insufficient sealing at the coupling area cannot be evaluated by these test methods.
Leakage of combustible gas becomes the cause of a fire or an explosion involving significant danger, so a proper test method is required.
This proposal provides test methods to evaluate the leakage of hoses and hose assemblies for the confirmation of design quality, manufacturing quality, shipping inspection, maintenance inspection and selection of suitable hoses and hose assemblies.
