This part of ISO 31120 specifies the refilling interface for the injection water (demineralised water/distilled water) in compliance with part 1 of ISO 31120, which is needed to improve engine efficiency. This part of ISO 31120 specifies the essential functional and geometric requirements of the refilling interface in order to ensure compatibility between the on-board refilling system and the offboard refilling system.
Water injection will enter the market soon. Purpose is to first define the interface to make the new product easier to use and increase customer acceptance. As the refilling location will remain as SCR on Diesel vehicles the existing ISO 22241-5 is used as start. Water is less critical to handle as AUS32 and with same lessons learned from the SCR standard the goal is to make the new standard more simple
