ISO/TC 8/SC 6 N 546 Revision of ISO 16425:2013) Ships and marine technology- Guidelines for installation of shipcommunication network for shipboard equipment and systems

Scope

Shipowners and shipbuilders using this standard requested that their respective roles be clarified and that the shipboard network design procedures and acceptance criteria be clarified in order to maintain a uniform quality.

Therefore, the purpose of this revised proposal has updated all chapters of the existing version of ISO 16425 in order to describe requirements along the shipboard network design procedure in an intelligible way from the viewpoint of utilising them. It also adds designs for Wi-Fi networks, networks equipped with a Shipboard data server that conform to ISO19847/ISO19848, and requirements for cybersecurity for shipboard networks.

Purpose

This proposal is to standardise the design, testing, operation, network equipment, shipboard equipment in the network and inspection of the shipboard network. It also clarifies the role of ship owners, and system integrator. By standardising the design and operation methods of shipboard networks, ship owners and operators can operate approved performance and a stable shipboard network. System integrator can provide ship owners and operators with safe and stable shipboard networking.

Manufacturers of shipboard network equipment and shipboard equipment in shipboard networks can then provide equipment with approved performance and functionality.
