ISO/TC 138/SC 2 N1997 ISO/NP 16422-2 "Pipes and joints made of oriented unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) for the conveyance of water under pressure - Part 2: Pipes"

Scope

This document specifies the characteristics of solid-wall pipes made of oriented unplasticized poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC-O) for piping systems intended for water supply and for buried drainage, sewerage, treated waste water and irrigation under pressure or above-ground where protected from direct sunlight. It also specifies the test parameters for the test methods referred to in this document. In conjunction with ISO 16422-1 and ISO 16422-5, it is applicable to oriented PVC-O pipes with or without integral socket intended to be used for the following:

a) water mains and services lines;

b) conveyance of water for both outside and inside buildings;

c) drainage, sewerage and treated waste water under pressure;

d) irrigation under pressure.

It is applicable to piping systems intended for the supply of water with a maximum allowable operating pressure (PFA) up to and including 25 bar . The piping system according to this International Standard is intended for the conveyance of cold water up to and including 45 °C and especially in those applications where special performance requirements are needed, such as impact loads and pressure fluctuations.

This part of ISO 16422 specifies a range of pipe sizes and pressure classes and gives a requirement and recommendations concerning colours.

Purpose

PVC-O market have been increasing every year in volume and regions over the world. Many new countries have adopted or used as a base the current ISO 16422 as a reference standard. The state of the art of PVC-O have changed quite a lot since the last revision of the standard 6 years ago, new range of existing products and new products have emerged.

This along the need of correction of some technical errors justify the need of the revision.

This proposal will bring to the users an updated and amended version in line with other similar products such as PVC-U that will make it more comprehensible.

Based on the result of the ISO 16422:2014 SR ballot (ISO/TC 138/SC 2 N1936) and the ad-hoc group proposal of the future of ISO 16422:2014 (ISO/TC 138/SC 2 N1976) the document should be revised and split it into four parts in line with the structure of the ISO 1452-series (PVC-U).

- Part 1: General

- Part 2: Pipes

- Part 3: Fittings

- Part 4: Fitness for purpose of the system
