This document mainly specifies basic requirements, technical requirements and test methods of biodegradable plastic shopping bags for composting.
This document is applicable to plastic shopping bags made from biodegradable plastic resin as the main raw material, processed by heat sealing or bonding, etc. It is also suitable for shopping bags made of composite of biodegradable plastic and other materials.
This document does not apply to biodegradable plastic bags such as biodegradable roll bags (also known as tear bags or point break bags made from the above materials) that are only used in packaging and are not used for carrying shopping.
Nowadays, the amount of plastic shopping bag is more than 2 million tons worldwide. Many countries , such as France, Italy, Austria have released "plastic restriction" or "plastic ban" policies due to the white pollution. China's Jilin Province has banned the production, sale and use of non-degradable disposable plastic shopping bags since 2015, and Hainan Province will launch a similar policy in 2020.
Therefore, the contemporary society needs urgently a new type of green, environmentally-friendly shopping bag. The meaning of the use of a biodegradable plastic shopping bags for composting is as follows:
1. The biodegradable plastic shopping bags for composting can be completely degraded into water and carbon dioxide in the natural environment or under composting conditions, causing no environmental pollution. This avoids effectively the risk of shopping bag waste returning to the social environment and reduces the re-contamination of the environment by conventional incineration or by-buried shopping bags waste.
2. The biodegradable plastic shopping bags for composting is prepared from degradable new materials such as PLA, PHA and PBAT. Among them, PLA and PHA are completely recyclable and completely free from dependence on petroleum resources, alleviating the problem of petroleum resources shortage; the main raw materials of PLA are corn, sucrose and cassava, which are beneficial to increase the added value of crops.
3. The use of biodegradable plastic shopping bags for composting helps to further strengthen people's awareness of environmental protection and it is of great significance for the sustainable development of the economy.
This standard is expected to effectively improve the quality management of biodegradable plastic shopping bags, and greatly promote the large-scale promotion. Furthermore, this standard serves to provide a solution for solving the problem of "white pollution", ensuring provision of safe biodegradable plastic shopping bags to be more energy efficiency and contribute to reduction in CO2 emission.
