ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 40 N 989, ISO/IEC PWI TS 22564-2 Information technology -- Service management of infrastructure -- Part 2: Process assessment model for data centre services

Scope

This standard clarifies the quality measurements for the quantitative evaluation of service quality, in accordance with the features and sub-features defined in ISO/IEC TS 22564-1 (Information technology -- Service management of infrastructure -- Part 1: Process reference model (PRM) for data centre services), and will be used in conjunction with ISO/IEC TS 22564-1.

The evaluation method of data center service process is proposed.This standard is applicable to:

a) a data center for evaluation of its own service processes;

b) external assessment institutions that evaluate the service process of a data center

Purpose

In recent years, new technologies and business models, such as cloud computing, IOT(Internet of things) and big data, have constantly emerged in IT field. These new technologies and business models are all supported by powerful data centers and advanced data center services.

The service capability of data centers is a critical characteristic to evaluate a data center, however, there isn’t an answer for how to assess and what should be assessed. The purpose of developing ISO/IEC TS 22564 series standards is to provide models, methods and processes to assess the service capability maturity and service process capability levels of data centers.

ISO/IEC TS 22564 series standards contain several parts. ISO/IEC TS 22564-1 provides a Process Reference Model (PRM) and describes a set of processes and purposes, requirements and outcomes of each process. ISO/IEC TS 22564-1 provides information for ISO/IEC TS 22564-2 to define a Process Assessment Model (PAM) that describes a set of indicators of process defined in ISO/IEC TS 22564-1 and process attribute defined in ISO/IEC 33020. The purpose of PRM is to tell readers what should be assessed and the purpose of PAM is to tell readers how to assess.

There is a good foundation for ISO/IEC TS 22564-2. Firstly, ISO/IEC TS 22564-1 has been finished, and provides a complete PRM for ISO/IEC TS 22564-2. Secondly, ISO/IEC 33020 has been published and describes process levels, process attributes and process attribute outcomes in a Measurement Framework (MF). The MF provides basic information for ISO/IEC TS 22564-2 to define a PAM. Thirdly, the initial draft of ISO/IEC TS 22564-2 was consulted within SC40 WG4 when it was proposed as a technical report and the comments was disposed.
