ISO/TC 122, ISO/NP 5465-1 Packaging --Paper bags and paper sacks - Part 1: Terminology

Scope

This document defines terms commonly used in the manufacture of paper bags and paper sacks. It refers to any size of single- and multiply bags made from paper.

For the purpose of this standard, constituents and components of other materials can be included without changing this definition.

Purpose

The standard/ vocabulary is ISO 6590-1:1983 needs to be revised with a new scope.

ISO 6590-1:1983 needs to be updated and modernized to be more relevant and easier to use for today’ s market, machines and products. The standard has not been fully revised since its origin. The range of products have increased widely, and a simpler structure is needed in order to produce and develop the products further.

A new module-structure within the terminology is suggested to clarify terms and to make the standard easier to use and follow. By using the module-structure the standard will be more flexible and provide a wider range of varieties of sacks and bags.

The language needs to be modernized and revised in line with a modern format of a standard.

A clear connection between “sacks and bags in paper” and the area of packaging, is asked for and should be included in a revision of the standard.
