ISO 10651-5:2006, Adoption without changes as EN ISO "Gas-powered emergency resuscitators"

Scope

This part of ISO 10651 specifies the basic safety and essential performance requirements for gas-powered emergency resuscitators (3.10) intended for use with humans by first responders. This equipment is intended for emergency field use and is intended to be continuously operator attended in normal use.

This part of ISO 10651 also specifies the requirements for resuscitator sets (3.22).

This part of ISO 10651 is not applicable to electrically-powered resuscitators.

NOTE ISO 10651-3 covers emergency and transport ventilators.

Purpose

Gas-powered emergency resuscitators are a range of basic ventilators that are not yet covered by an EN standard. The Covid-19 crisis has shown they can be largely used. As their technology is relatively simple, many manufacturers, new in the domain of ventilators, have started the design of these gas-powered emergency resuscitators to meet the demand in means of ventilation. It is of primary importance that the development of these critical devices can be made in the framework of an EN standard.
