ISO/TC 20/SC 16 N 297, ISO/NP 5312 Evaluation and test method of rotor blade sharp injury to human body for civil lightweight and small UA

Scope

The proposal of this standard mainly aims at the sharp injury of rotor blades to human body during the operation of civil lightweight and small UAVs (empty weight is less than 15 kg, maximum take-off weight is less than 25 kg), and puts forward the test method and injury classification criteria. Rotor blade sharp injury include stab and cut to human body. Other UAV types can be tested and validated with reference to this standard.

Purpose

Lightweight and small UAVs are dominated in the civil and commercial UAVs market. The widespread application and integration into public life of them has the potential to threaten the public safety. And massive UAVs collision events with people, aircrafts and other objects have occurred all other word in the past years.

Blunt or sharp injury occurs commonly during the collision incident between the UAVs and ground personnel. And sharp injuries to human skin, including cuts, stab, etc., are mainly caused by the highspeed rotation of the UAVs’ blades, leading to widely attention and concern from citizens and the government. However, no widely accepted test specifications and injury classification has formed worldwide so far to evaluate the sharp injury caused by UAVs rotating blades to human body. A convincing global standard need to be formulated urgently to test and evaluate sharp injury to human body caused by the rotating blades of the civil lightweight and small UAVs. This standard can be used for testing operational risks and guiding safety design, which will promote the healthy and sustainable development of the lightweight and small UAVs industry.

Consider the following: Is there a verified market need for the proposal? What problem does this standard solve? What value will the document bring to end-users?
