ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 40 N 948, ISO/IEC PWI TS 22564-1 Information technology - Service management of infrastructure - Part 1: Process reference model (PRM) for data centre services

Scope

This document defines a process reference model (PRM) for the domain of service management in a data centre to provide data centre services.

The model specifies a process architecture for the domain and comprises a set of processes. Each process is described in terms of process purpose and outcomes.

Purpose

In recent years, new technologies and business models, such as cloud computing, IOT(Internet of things) and big data, have constantly emerged in IT field. These new technologies and business models are all supported by powerful data centers and advanced data center services.

With the increasing size and technical complexity of data centers, the service capability of data centers becomes more and more important. However, the existing standards in IT industry mostly focus on the construction of data centers, and few has mentioned the service capacity of data centers. Therefore, it is high time to bring up this new concept and study the service capability maturity model of data center.

As the concept of Data Center Service Process Maturity first proposed in the industry, Data Center Service Process Evaluation Model measures various maturity levels quantitatively by means of evidence collection and mathematical calculation, which changes the current status of qualitative evaluation of data center management, and help realize quantitative evaluation and digital management of data centers. On the basis of the service process framework of the data center, this standard introduces the weighted average method innovatively to determine the management level of data center service process, referring to traditional progressive grading method, and constructs a new evaluation algorithm of the service process of data centers. It is also a new attempt that we combine the ideology of software process governance capacity evaluation and the idea of process management of data center together, applying the maturity thought of "classification" and "process" to data center management innovatively.

The purpose of this standard is to propose a reference model for the service process of a data center. This standard will help evaluate the quality and capability of each service process of data center effectively.

The content of this standard has been discussed many times before and reached a consensus within SC40. ISO TPM suggested changing the previous document to TS, and considering this standard may be used widely, we apply to change it from TR to TS.

Consider the following: Is there a verified market need for the proposal? What problem does this standard solve? What value will the document bring to end-users? See Annex C of the ISO/IEC Directives part 1 for more information.
