Charging cables specified in IEC 62893 are intended to be used for electrical appliances of class II equipment.
Maximum conductor operating temperature for the cables in this Standard is 90 ºC
The test methods specified are given in IEC 62893-2, IEC 60245-2, IEC 60332-1-2, IEC 62821-1:2015, Annex B and in the relevant parts of IEC 60811.
IEC 62440 is intended to be used as guidance on the safe use of cables in this document together with specific guidance in Clause 6 of this document
This Technical specification IEC 62893-4-2 should be read in conjunction with IEC 62893-1, which specifies general requirements and IEC 62893-2, which specifies test methods.
The standardization of the charging cable connecting the electricity supply point and the electric vehicle is needed to overcome the reference and use of cables without the necessary performance for this specific application. The standardized cable will ensure safe use and appropriate performance related to reliability and environmental behaviour.
The specification of the charging cable has to ensure the requested properties in accordance to the standards developed by TC69.
TC20 has noted the intention of many parties to specify the charging cable due to the progress of the standardization of the plugs and the other parts of the charging station as a whole.
Part 4-1 covers the Mode 4 charging using DC in accordance to IE 61851-1 without a thermal management system according to IEC 61851-23 will be published in Mai 2020. The new Part 4-2 will cover DC charging with thermal management system. The development of these kind of systems is in process and so the working decided for a TS.
